In 2023, climate records were shattered as it became the hottest year on record, underscoring the urgent impacts of human-induced climate change, especially for small island nations like those in the Caribbean. Island Action, Global Goals: Can the Global Stocktake change the Caribbean’s climate future?, a new film by Climate Analytics Caribbean, highlights the adaptive efforts of Caribbean communities in the face of these challenges. Set against the backdrop of the first Global Stocktake, a critical review under the Paris Agreement, the film explores grassroots actions in Trinidad and Tobago, St. Lucia, and Dominica. From safeguarding agrotourism in Brasso Seco, protecting heritage sites from sea level rise, and building water resilience in St. Lucia, to the Kalinago tribe’s efforts in Dominica to withstand future hurricanes, the film showcases the power of local leadership in mitigating and adapting to climate change, all while pushing for global accountability to keep warming within 1.5°C.
